50 Years of Dedication to The Arts in Northern California by Katherine Kunhiraman & KP Kunhiraman

Katherine Kunhiraman

Katherine Kunhiraman studied dance in India for 12 years, first in Kolkata and later at Kalakshetra where she studied Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, and Carnatic music. She did advanced Bharatanatyam studies with Shanta and V.P. Dhananjayan, founders of Bharata Kalanjali in Chennai, and was their first graduate. She has performed all over India, as well as Lebanon, Egypt, the U.K., and the U.S.A.

KP Yesodha

K.P. Yesodha holds a postgraduate degree in dance from Kalakshetra and has performed with their illustrious dance company throughout India. She has also performed in Egypt, Japan, France, and the U.S.A. She was among the last artists to work directly with Rukmini Devi Arundale. She taught and performed with Bharata Kalanjali, recently at the Konark Festival, and continues to direct the Chennai branch of Kalanjali in Adyar. She visits the U.S.A. yearly to train Kalanjali dancers and conduct programs and workshops.
